Head Football Coach & WHS Athletic Coordinator
Howard was named Pirates head coach in March 2006 replacing then head coach and athletic director Mark Ball, who stepped away from football duties and into an AD-only position. The change came as Wylie moved into Class 5A, where they competed from 2006-2009. The team reached the Class 5A state finals in 2008 and Class 4A state semifinals in 2010 under Howard’s watch.
Howard joined the Wylie coaching staff as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator in Feb. 1997. He began his coaching career in 1988 as the offensive and defensive lines coach at Frisco where he also oversaw the track and powerlifting programs. In 1992, he became the offensive coordinator at Mineral Wells before taking over as head football coach and athletic director at Corsicana Mildred.
A 1988 graduate of Oklahoma State University, Howard holds degrees in business administration and business education. As a high school athlete, he gained experience as an offensive and defensive lineman as well as linebacker at Covington-Douglas HS. He played a year of college ball at the University of Oklahoma where he played offensive line and linebacker.
Howard and wife Merry have two children, Heath (17) and Heather (15).
