This is Homecoming week at Wylie High School. The Pirates will battle the McKinney North Bulldogs at Wylie Stadium on Friday night. Both teams are looking for a win, as they are tied in district at 2-1 and 3-3 for the season.
McKinney North is showing to be a very different team this season. Coach Mike Fecci has added two new coordinators and three other assistants to their solid program. Last week the Bulldogs enjoyed a 48-45 victory over the Lovejoy Leopards. Junior running back Ronald Jones, who has rushed for over 1100 yards and 20 touchdowns already this season, had six touchdowns against the Leopards. McKinney North made their mark on the ground against Lovejoy for the win.
Last year when the teams met, the Pirates prevailed with a 35-20 win over the Bulldogs, who were the home team. That win put Wylie in the Play-offs.
As the Pirates ready for this match, Coach Howard said, “Both of us need to win, as it is important in the race. Their quarterback and running back are both very talented. We will need to slow down their running game. Good teams don’t give up big plays. Our defense has to play like Wylie Pirate defenses are known to play.”
Along with all the Homecoming festivities, the Pirates will recognize Cancer Awareness month. Both teams will don pink socks donated by Rosa's Cafe and wristbands to show their support. After the 1st quarter, the Pirate Football Program will make a special presentation to honor those who have battled this disease. In show of support, Pirate fans are encouraged to wear PINK. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. at Wylie Stadium.
The WPABC Drawing for Cowboys tickets will be this Friday during the Homecoming game. You can still get tickets before the game at the Spirit Trailer.

GREENVILLE--Carson Cook threw for 337 yards and two scores and ran for another as Wylie (3-3, 2-1) amassed 507 yards while defeating Greenville (0-6, 0-3) in District 13-4A play.
Kameron Kelly and Alex Wesley combined for 224 yards and 22 receptions for Wylie which scored 35 consecutive points between the second and third quarter.
Wylie turned four of five lost Greenville fumbles into 24 points, starting with Michael Kloza's 20-yard fumble return in the second quarter that provided the eventual decisive points.
The 2013 Wylie Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the First Baptist Wylie Events Center at 12:00 p.m.
The Wylie Sports Hall of Honor was established in 1998 by Athletic Director Mark Ball. It exists to recognize and honor men and women who have brought honor and distinction to Wylie Sports through their athletic achievement, community service and character.
In 1999, a golf tournament was held to raise funds for the organization, which has continued on a regular basis to assist in the organization's endeavors.
The Hall of Honor currently funds scholarships to athletes from Wylie High and Wylie East each year. In June, two athletes from each school each received $1000 scholarships.
Over 60 athletes and 1 team have been inducted into the Hall of Honor.
After a disappointing loss last week to Wylie East, the Pirates will make their way to Greenville Friday night for a face-off with the Lions.
Coming off of a 35-21 loss to the Raiders, the Pirates hope to make a turn around this week as they play the 0-5 Greenville team. The Lions encountered the Lovejoy Leopards on Friday night and walked away with a 48-7 loss.
Last year when the two teams met, the Pirates were 0-5 also and surprised the Lions with a 50-7 victory at home.
Greenville finished with 209 yards of total offense against Lovejoy. Senior Running back Tyler Matthews had a third straight game with over 100 yards rushing. For the season, he’s racked up 482 yards on 85 carries.
“Greenville plays very hard. They will chip at you”, said Coach Howard. “Coach Sedberry is a good coach and does a good job with his program.”
District 13-4A is tight right now with six teams tied with 1-1 records. Every game counts, so the Pirates have to play hard and a solid 48 minutes of football, if they hope to secure their place in the play-offs.
Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. at T. A. Cotton Ford Stadium, Greenville.
