UIL Soccer Realignments Announced

The University Interscholastic League has released the 2012-13 realignment for soccer. Wylie has been placed into District 21 with Wylie East, Lovejoy, Royse City and Quinlan Ford. While many districts are comprised of eight teams, D-21 will make do with five teams for the girls while there will be only four district teams for the boys (Quinlan Ford does not currently have a boys soccer program).

Track and Field Athletes Qualifying for Regional

Several football standouts qualified for the Region 2 Track and Field Meet out of the District 10-4A meet held April 11-12 at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.

Sophomore T'Kevian Rockwell placed first in the 100-meter dash (10.46) and anchored the second-place 4x200-meter relay team.

Junior Preston Burnett placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.09) and narrowly missed qualifying for regional in the 300-meter hurdles.

Senior defensive linemen Noble Nwachukwu and Azuka Akozar earned their medals in throwing disciplines. Nwachukwu placed second in both the discus (151-07) and shot put (48-03), while Akozar placed first in shot put (49-04).

Freshmen Football Players Take it from Gridiron to Greens

A trio of freshmen football players - Carsen Cook, Brandon Morgan, and Blake Shapiro - competed in the recent District 10-4A tournament at Waterview Golf Club. Cook led the team with an opening round 74. He finished 18th overall with a two-day total 153. Morgan shot an opening round 79.

Summer 7-on-7 SQT Schedule

The Pirates will participate in four 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournaments:

Saturday, May 26 ~ Frisco Liberty

Friday, June 1 ~ Mesquite

Friday, June 15 ~ Wylie

Saturday, June 23 ~ Rockwall

The state championship for qualifying teams is scheduled for July 20-21 at Texas A&M University.

Hiddink Among 58 Scholar-Athletes Honored by NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas

Kicker Seth Hiddink will be among 58 North Texas scholar-athletes honored by the National Football Foundation Gridiron Club of Dallas during an April banquet.

According to an NFF press release, honorees were judged on “athletic accomplishments, performance in the classroom and commitment to the community.”

The selection committee included coaches, teachers, administrators and business leaders from the North Texas area. During the banquet, one individual will be named the club's top scholar-athlete, claiming a $2,500 scholarship to continue his education.

Kelly, Nwachukwu Earn All-District Basketball Honors

Kameron Kelly Named Second-Team All-District Basketball; Noble Nwachukwu Garners Honorable Mention

Sophomore Kameron Kelly, who stepped in as Pirates quarterback midway through last season, was recently honored by District 10-4A coaches as a second-team all-district selection in basketball. Kelly's smart, assertive play on the court closely resembles the style he displays on the gridiron. Basketball head coach David Black described Kelly as "exciting" and "clutch." The sophomore is one of several candidates who will compete to lead the Pirates football team this fall.

Senior Noble Nwachukwu garnered honorable mention. The senior, who started two seasons on the Pirates defensive line,  has signed with West Virginia University for football.

Other all-district basketball honorees were junior Jacoby Armstrong on first team and senior Chad Hamilton as honorable mention.

Lineman Brad Beattie Named Most Outstanding Wrestler

Pirates lineman and two-sport athlete Brad Beattie was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the March 31 wrestling banquet. After posting a strong overall record, the senior grabbed district champion in the 220-pound weight class. He placed fourth at regional and earned a trip to last month's state tournament.

Other wrestlers receiving awards at the banquet were Rookie of the Year Emmanuel Calhoune, Newcomer of the Year Ryan Rigsby, Leadership Award winner Caleb Sumners, Iron Man Garrett Vance and Most Improved Wrestler Anthony Pena.

Lineman Jess Croley Signs with Tabor College

Jess Croley, who started on the Pirates offensive line for three seasons, has signed with Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. Croley is flanked by parents Jess and Carmen Croley. Coaches John Rose, Joby Focke, head coach Bill Howard, Roger Byrd and Royce Slechta stand behind.

Kyle Fuller Named to THSCA All-Star North Team

Kyle Fuller has been honored by the Texas High School Coaches Association as a selection to the 2012 THSCA All-Star Football Game presented by Fuddruckers. He will play for the North team.

Fuller is the son of Audrey and Larry Fuller.

The All-Star game will be played July 31 at the Alamodome and will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Softball

The softball team looks to continue their undefeated district run at 6-0 when they host McKinney North tonight. The varsity game is set for 7 pm; JV plays at 5 pm.

Baseball

The Pirates baseball team travels to J.J. Pearce for tonight's (3/27) contest versus the Mustangs. JV plays at 4:30 pm followed by the varsity at 7:30 pm.

The team has posted a 4-1 record against District 10-4A teams. They are currently in a three-way tie atop the district standings.

Wylie Football Booster Club Launches New Mobi

WYLIE, TX - The Wylie High School Football Booster Club, in conjunction with MobiTree, announced today the launch of the new Pirate booster club website and mobile website. Thanks to the software developed by MobiTree, Pirate fans now can obtain the same information on the go via their smartphone that was previously only accessible on their computer.

The new Wylie High School football website will offer a mobile device enabled version of the main website with all the same information and functionality Pirate fans are accustomed to. When fans go to the website, they will find useful, up-to-date information on their beloved Pirates in the palm of their hand via their smartphone including the latest news and scores, player rosters and coaches bios, schedules complete with GPS capabilities, photo galleries, coupons for sponsor businesses and more.

Working towards creating a user-friendly interface that adapts to the different smartphones on the market, the Wylie Football Booster Club and MobiTree remain steadfast to their goal in this product: creating the ultimate solutions package for Pirate fans.

Pirates Step into District 13-4A for 2012, 2013 Seasons

UIL 2012-14 Biennial Realignment Announced Thursday, Feb. 2

The University Interscholastic League released the 2012-14 biennial realignment on Feb. 2.
 
The all-important break between Class 4A and 5A schools was set at 2090, an enrollment figure that sent current District 10-4A schools McKinney (2124 enrollment), Rockwall (2212), Rockwall Heath (2144) and J.J. Pearce (2130) up a classification.
 
Wylie (1750.5) and Wylie East (1612) are plugged into District 13-4A with Denison (1291), Greenville (1204), Lucas Lovejoy (1104), McKinney North (1771), Royse City (1239) and Sherman (1710).
 
Highland Park (2026) was the sole survivor in District 10-4A. They are paired with Carrollton Creekview, Carrollton Newman Smith, Forney, North Forney, Mesquite Poteet, West Mesquite and Terrell.
 
McKinney joins McKinney Boyd with Allen and the Plano schools in the six-team District 10-5A.
 
Rockwall and Heath are headed into District 12-5A with Mesquite, Mesquite Horn, North Mesquite, Longview and Tyler Lee.
 
Official enrollment figures will be released by UIL in the next four to six weeks.
 
This alignment is considered for football and basketball purposes, but also impacts volleyball, cross country, softball, baseball and track. Separate district realignments for soccer and wrestling will be released in the spring.
